Calcium cyanamide, also known as lime nitrogen, typically contains 20% to 22% nitrogen. It is a valuable fertilizer in the production of harmless agricultural products and also serves as a soil purifier with both medicinal and fertilizing properties. Calcium cyanamide has a dual function of soil disinfection and soil fertility improvement, and is commonly used in vegetable growing areas.
Functions of Calcium Cyanamide:
Function 1: Applying calcium cyanamide improves soil structure, inhibits the occurrence of pests and diseases, thereby increasing vegetable quality and yield.
Function 2: Calcium cyanamide contains more than 38% calcium, which can meet the plant's calcium needs during growth, especially for calcium-loving plants.
Function 3: Calcium cyanamide releases nitrogen slowly, and the ammonium nitrogen formed by its decomposition is not easily lost in the soil. The effective period can last for 3-4 months, meeting the nitrogen fertilizer needs of vegetable crops in the early growth stage, reducing the application of chemical nitrogen fertilizers, and lowering the nitrate content in agricultural products to reduce groundwater pollution.
Function 4: Calcium cyanamide can decompose into calcium hydroxide in the soil, which has a neutralizing effect on acidic soil. It can also prevent crop calcium deficiency and reduce the occurrence of physiological diseases in fruits, such as blossom-end rot in tomatoes and dry heart in cabbage. Calcium cyanamide can also increase the storage life of fruits and vegetables.
Function 5: Calcium cyanamide can promote the decomposition of organic matter such as straw in compost.
Function 6: Calcium cyanamide can break the dormancy of grapevines. The main component of common grape dormancy breakers is calcium cyanamide and cyanamide, which mainly promotes the early degradation of the growth inhibitor ABA (abscisic acid) during grape dormancy, to some extent replacing the biological effect of low-temperature chilling requirements.
