The various activities of the human body rely on ATP, or adenosine triphosphate, to provide energy. However, the amount of ATP in the human body is very small. During exercise, ATP is quickly depleted. At this time, creatine can quickly resynthesize ATP to supply energy. This is the main mechanism by which creatine enhances athletic performance.
Synthetic creatine usually refers to creatine obtained through chemical synthesis or bioengineering techniques. Its chemical structure is the same as naturally occurring creatine, so its function and effect are usually similar.
There are three main routes for synthesizing creatine:
(1) Synthesizing creatine using chloroacetic acid, methylamine, and an aqueous solution of cyanamide.
(2) Reacting amino cyanide with sodium sarcosinate or potassium sarcosinate in water or a mixture of water and organic solvent at a temperature of 20℃~150℃ and pH of 7~14.
(3) Preparing creatine or creatine monohydrate by reacting sodium sarcosinate or potassium sarcosinate with amino cyanide at 20℃~150℃ and pH 7.0~14.0. This method includes pH adjustment using carbonic acid.
