I. As a Black Pigment

 

In many black coating and ink products, acetylene carbon black is an excellent source of black pigment. For example, in automotive refinish paints, acetylene carbon black can provide a deep and pure black color, making the color of the refinished car surface highly match the original factory paint color. This is because acetylene carbon black has the characteristics of a high-pigment carbon black, with a small particle size and a large specific surface area, which can effectively absorb and scatter light, thus presenting a rich black color. In high-end ink products, such as inks used for printing high-quality book covers or art albums, the addition of acetylene carbon black can ensure the depth and saturation of the black ink color. Compared with other black pigments, it can make the black parts of printed matter more vivid and the details clearer, giving a high-quality visual experience.

 

II. For Improving Conductivity

 

In some coatings and inks that require antistatic or conductive functions, acetylene carbon black plays a crucial role. For example, in the conductive coating of electronic device housings, acetylene carbon black can build a conductive path, enabling the housing to have good electrostatic discharge performance. When an electronic device generates static electricity during use, such coatings can conduct the static electricity away in a timely manner, preventing static electricity accumulation from damaging electronic components. In printed circuit board (PCB) inks, the conductivity of acetylene carbon black helps to achieve electrical connections between circuits or as part of an electromagnetic shielding layer. Such inks can prevent electromagnetic interference and ensure the accuracy and stability of signal transmission on the circuit board.

 

III. Enhancing UV Resistance

 

For coatings and inks used in outdoor environments, such as building exterior wall coatings and outdoor billboard inks, acetylene carbon black can enhance the UV resistance of the products. Ultraviolet rays are one of the main factors causing the aging and fading of coatings and inks. Acetylene carbon black can absorb ultraviolet rays and convert them into heat energy to dissipate, thereby slowing down the photodegradation process of coatings and inks and prolonging their service life. For example, in marine ship coatings, the addition of acetylene carbon black can effectively resist the dual erosion of seawater and ultraviolet rays on the hull coating, protect the metal structure of the hull, and reduce the frequency and cost of repairs.
